Hey kids,
You already know it, on another flight this time to the country that birthed me, South Korea.
Recently just turned 30 and spent a day with Mei before flying out. It’s crazy to look at my age and realize how much I’ve tried to grown and learn, how I’ve tried to come to terms with who I am as a human being.
A lot of who I am came from my environment, and a lot of that being attributed to my parents. I don’t want to delve too much into it but your grandfather and grandmother left a lot of trauma for me to figure out. Most of it being ways that they learnt to deal with their trauma from their parents before, I’m trying my best to cut it off before it gets to you.
I know I’ll never be perfect and that I will let you down in some ways. I just hope that when you come to explore who you are and discover these core fears and trauma that I can support you through it as well and converse about it as human beings.
I hope that you all become human beings with aspirations, goals, motivation, and a clear sense of self that I didn’t have when I was a younger adult. I want to talk to you about your fears, what upsets you, why so and so at school bothers you.
I want to see you fail, I want to see you succeed, but more importantly I want to see you grow, and be just close enough to where if you need my help, I’ll be there.
I don’t want you to think you’re special, we’re all just human beings in the end, but I want you to think that you’re someone with value. Someone who is sure of themselves, and likes themselves.
I want you to be intelligent, not in the stereotypical way, just someone who is capable of using their mind to their best extent. Whether for business, studies, people, art, planning, strategy, I want you to be able to understand things, communicate them well, and contribute to projects and accomplish a handful of things.
But at the end of the day, even if you don’t meet any of these standards, here is what I will say. As long as you’re a decent human being who is capable of contributing to society. I will love you, til I take my last breathe.
